APC crisis: Sokonte Davies emerges news APC Chairman in Rivers State

The leadership crisis rocking the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has taken a new dimension as statutory members of the party in the State have suspended Hon Igochukwu Aguma who was pronounced the party Chairman in the State by Port Harcourt court.

In his place, Dr Sokonte Davies was unanimously voted as the new Chairman of the party.

Statutory members of the party had met and levelled several allegations against Aguma, linking him with being an agent of opposition PDP sent to destroy APC in Rivers state.

Also in related issue, a party Chieftain in Rivers state, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has issued a stunning alarm that the suspended Chairman in league with Rivers state governor is planning to secure an alleged blacks market injunction against the new state Chairman.

The statement reads as follows :

“Following his suspension by the Statutory members of the State Executive Committee of the Rivers APC, and the election of Dr. Sokonte Davies as Chairman of the party, it has been reliably uncovered that Hon. Igochukwu Aguma in collaboration with Governor Nyesom Wike and Senator Magnus Abe are currently on a shopping spree around Port Harcourt, looking for a Judge to buy over in a bid to illicitly obtain a restraining order, barring the newly constituted Executive Committee of the Rivers APC from validly performing its functions”,he said.

Condemning the scheme, Eze expressed worries that Aguma and his allies are yet to understand that in a democracy, majority will always have their way.

He wondered why Aguma would scheme to impose himself on the people when in fact, party faithful, through their representatives have recovered what was stolen from them and are rebuilding for better output. He said Aguma’s scheme is contrary to every recognised standards of civilised behaviour, democratic ethics and decorum and should not be allowed to thrive.

Eze appealed to judges to be weary of being inveigled into a situation in which they find themselves becoming partisan agents of wrongdoers in the pursuit of their selfish private vendettas.

Stressing that public confidence in Courts should be upheld through the prompt and unbiased service of justice to deserving parties in all matters, the party chief said courts should not be likened to a regular supermarket where wares are displayed and sold according to the capacity of ones purse.

He said courts should encourage party conflicts to be managed with the mechanism of internal dispute resolution to strengthen leadership and managerial skills among political institutions, positing that regular interference in party conflicts will only expose the courts to public odium, disrepute and mockery.
