Sustainable human, infrastructural and institutional capacity building indispensable for economy revamping -Prof. Asuquo

A clarion call for a sustainable investment in the areas of Human, Institutional and Infrastructural Capacity Building has been made by the Director General/ Chief Executive, National Metallurgical Development Centre, Jos, Engr Prof Linus Asuquo.

National Metallurgical Development Centre, revealed that the DG/CE made the plea while declaring open a- three day Training workshop organized by the Management of NMDC for all members of staff at the Centre recently.

Prof Asuquo regretted that the key areas that saddle the boat of the economy have been paid little or no attention to for a very long time.

He said that for the economy of Nigeria to have a boost and compete favourably with other developed economies of the world , there is urgent need for a more Robust and sustainable investment in Human Capacity Building which is a key factor in driving other factors for rapid economic growth.

The Chief Executive challenged all members of staff in the Agency to utilize the opportunity of the Training Workshop to enhance their knowledge especially in the dynamism of modern Technology / Techniques for better service delivery.

According to Prof Asuquo, the Management of NMDC in response to President Mohammadu Buhari's Economic Diversification Policy, particularly on the emphasis laid on Mining and Steel Sector, said it has become imperative to train and re-train members of staff in NMDC so as to imbibe the right attitude to work which will eventually improve productivity.

The NMDC Helmsman went on to say that with the right attitude, there is every likelihood that one attends to the Altitude of life.

The DG said that during his two years as the head of the Agency, his administration has worked tirelessly to provide conducive environment for research while calling on the government to inject more funds into research considering the pivotal role research plays in the growth of any given economy.

Asuquo decried the insignificant portion of the country's annual budget allocated to research while calling for a review to enable the industry perform optimally.

In his words ' NMDC has the potential of Industrialising the country through modern global best practices in Research and Development if provided with the necessary tools and adequate funding as being the practice in other developing countries in the world.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, FullRays Consulting Limited, Peter Udo who spoke on behalf of the Resource Persons, assured the participants that his organization has the Training Professional know-how to make them discover who they are especially, the hidden potentials in them which if properly harnessed would add value to the realization of the Mission and Vision of NMDC.

Udo reminded the participants, the indispensable role Team Work coupled with the right attitude plays in realizing organizational goals.

He thanked the management of NMDC for giving his firm the opportunity to show case its professionalism in Training and retraining consultancy.

The Director of Finance and Human Resources Management, Dr Abubakar Tumi in his vote of thanks charged all the participants to embrace the Training Workshop with passion so as to get the best from the resource persons.

Abubakar said that in compliance with the directives on safety protocols aimed at preventing the spread of COVID 19, Pandemic, the management decided to split the work force into smaller units to observe social distance.

He thanked the DG/CE for not only reviving the infrastructures at the centre but went further to rebuild the human minds through knowledge d- packed Training that would give room for better inputs and optimal service delivery.
