Plateau Commissioner of works met contractors handling road projects within the State for urgent completion


The Permanent Secretary, Engr. Sunday C. Hyat (mni), Directors and Residence Engineers of Ministry of Works today had a meeting with Contractors handling various road projects in Plateau State at the Ministry's conference room at JD Gwomwalk Secretariat, Jos. Engr. Hyat who spoke on  behalf of the Hon. Commissioner, Pam Bot-Mang who is unavoidably absent welcome all Contractors and appreciated Governor Simon Bako Lalong for taken necessary measures to safe guard lives against COVID-19 pandemic. 

According to Engr. Sunday Hyat, though the Government had suffered lack of revenue due to COVID-19 but it won't relent in its efforts towards providing  infrastructural development.

The aim of the meeting is to deliberate on issues which bothers around resumption of works, current challenges and the way forward as it affects road projects in the State. After much deliberation, the Permanent Secretary commended some construction firms who performed credibly well and frowned at those whose performances were below expectations stating that henceforth Government will not take unnecessary excuses from such contractors. 


The following roads were at the front burner of discussion at the meeting :
Mararaban Jama'a  - British American Junction, New Government House infrastructure, Old Airport - Yelwa club Junction, Langkang Dyis Road Project, Dokan Tofa - Ba'ap - Kurgwi Road with spur to Bwall, Demshin - Angwan Dadi - Kalong - Nyak, Shargang - Angwan Rina Road and Longvel - Yelwa - Mato junction (Section 1), Wase - Mavo - Gimbi Road, and Langtang - Garkawa - Yelwa Road with spur to Laling Project.

 He also disclosed that compensations were paid by the Government and certificates of valuation (CV's) were paid for, while others are pending but lamented on the delay in payment to third party by Contractors. Contractors were advised to liase with resident Engineers with a view to processing RETC for payment by relevant authority. 

Present at the meeting were the representatives of PW - Nigeria Ltd, Mould Nigeria, EEC, Rick Rock Construction and RETRO Construction.

All things being equal, the contractors are expected to return to their respective project sites and complete outstanding works as a matter of urgency said Engr. Hyat.
