PRIORITIZATION OF THE MANUFACTURING  INDUSTRY THROUGH YOUTH ENGAGEMENT-A BANKABLE THERAPY-PROF ASUQUO  


This advocacy was made by the Director General/ Chief Executive, National Metallurgical Development Centre, Jos, Engr Prof Linus O. Asuquo when he received two different youth organizations, National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) and National Youth Assessemble in his office recently.


A statement made available to News Parrot Newspaper and was signed by Sunny Eweama, Head Press and Public Relations 
NMDC stated that Prof Asuquo equivocally said that the only panacea to insecurity challenges in the country is to resourcefully involve the youths in revamping the manufacturing industry which according to him is in moribound state.


The DG/CE said that if Research and Development are given their pride of place in the country through adequate funding, an Agency like NMDC would have been capable of engaging thousands of youths into different R and D related activities.


Asuquo lamented that for Nigeria to continue to remain a consuming nation instead of a producing one projects that the nation's economic growth remains a fantacy.He said that for the nation to curb youth restiveness, there is every need for the governments to legislate favourable laws that will attract private investors to the manufacturing industry thereby creating avenue to engage the youths gamefully.


The Director General/Chief recalled the role maufacturing industries played in boosting the economy prior to the rescovery of Oil in the country. According to him textile, Agriculture, minerals like Coal and Tin were major drivers of the Nigeria Economy in the1960s and early 1970s.


Prof Asuquo advised that for Nigeria to be emancipated from external indeptedness , there should be strict policy on ' Producing what we consume and consuming what we produce'


While appreciating the youth organizations for finding him worthy for the prestigeous award by inducting him into YAN HALL of FAME as well as MEDAL and CERTIFICATE of CREDENCE by Youth Assembly of Nigeria and NANS MERIT AWARD for HARD WORK and DEDICATION to SERVICE to HUMANITY.


The NMDC Boss said that he was humbled for those awards which he said would spure him to go extra miles in repositioning NMDC to be a Global Centre of Excelence in Mineral and Metal Inovations through Research and Development.

The DG/CE , charged the youths to shun violence rather embrace education as a major tool to self actualization. He informed them with his vast experience in dealing with the youth as Teacher and lecturer for many years, he realized that Nigerian youths have the propencity of being outstanding in the global rating if their potentials are properly harnessed.

The leaders of the two groups, Comrade Jonathan Dangana Esq and Comrade Daniel (CNS) in their seperate remarks extolled the virtues of Prof which included youth friendliness, human capacity building, innovative, Hardwork, Excellence among others.

According to them the indices used in selecting him for those Awards were very transparent, competitive and application international best practices.

In his vote of thanks, the Director of Finance and Human Resource Management of NMDC, Dr Abubakar Yusuf Tumi, thanked the representatives of YAN and NANS for acknowledging the immeasurable contributions of Prof Asuquo in uplifting Research and Development in Nigeria particularly in NMDC, Jos


He advised to youths to be Godly, focused and utilize every positve opportunity offered to improve their lives.
Abubakar said that members of staff in NNDC will always give Engr Prof Asuquo maximum support to do more exploit in R and D
