Plateau Head of Service appeal to PLASU striking workers to call off strike.

The Plateau State Head of Service Engr. Sunday Hyat has made a compassionate appeal to the striking workers of the Plateau State own University of Bokkos to call off the ongoing strike action embarked by them for the interest of all.

Engr. Hyat made the appeal in an exclusive interview he granted to News Parrot Newspaper online in his office at the Joshep Gwomwalk Secretariat Jos, recently and said,There is a position by Pro Chancellors and Chairmen of State owned Universities and they made it categorically clear that they are not part of the National Strike. So it is expected that ASUU and all State owned Universities should resume and that implies to the Plateau State University, which should resume.

Hyat stated that "I am aware that the Vice Chancellor, the Pro Chancellor and the Council are doing all they could to meet all their teething issues ,which has to do with earned allowance, that is peculiar to them and I am very sure they are tackling that and I believe they have sorted that out and they should have resumed by now.

He also revealed tha he is still surprised that they have not resumed uptil now.

Speaking over the recently signed agreement with the Labour in Plateau State, and what it

Engr Hyat stated that four Unions were on strike in Plateau State, that is, the Nurses of  the Plateau Specialist Hospital, that is the Joint Action Committee, comprising of Nurses, Pharmacies and other allied Health workers of the Plateau Specialist Hospital. And equally the nurses are of Midwifes of Health Services Management Board. They were equally on strike, added to that, were the Joint Academic Staff Union of Tertiary Institutions in Plateau State and then the Non Academic Staff, so these are the four Unions in Plateau State on strike.

"I am happy to inform you that we have reached agreement with those Unions because quite a lot of there demands have been met, and they have resumed work.
Thus, as I am speaking with you no staff or Union of Plateau State is on strike, everybody is at work.
So I appreciate you and I appreciate labour for the understanding"

Part of the condition of which they made was remittances of part payment of deductions which we had heard issues with them but thank God the office of the Accountant General has responded and is paying them those remittances. And one other issue is the issue of employment which His Excellency Rt Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has graciously approved the employment of staff in those institutions and equally lifted up the embargo on promotions because of the committee headed by Nde John Gobak mni, there was an embargo that was placed on promotion now that the committee has submitted their report, the embargo has been  lifted so ciculars have gone out to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to begin to prepare promotion briefs and appropriately forward them to this office and off cause the Civil Service Commission (CSC).So we appreciate His Excellency for the magnanimity in responding and approving all the requests by the Plateau State Civil servants through the Plateau State House of Assembly.

Also speaking on the financial implications of the  approvals, Engr. Hyat stated that of course there are some financial implications because the approvals is like a double edged sword.
He further atated that there are quite a lot of retirements taking place in civil service, and there are some MDAs you will see obvious  absence of staff. The worst has been places like the Plateau Specialist Hospital and the Hospital Management Board, where because of the lack of Nurses and Midwives, the workers embarked on strike. The same with some of the Hospitals across the State. You will find out that some of the hospitals with only five Nurses and they are telling me that the  minimum they should have is fifteen nurses. When you have five nurses it is inadequate because you know they can't run  three shifts because Nursing is three shifts of eight hours par day, so if you have five certainly you can not have a  smooth shift.
Our duty is to provide the basic healthcare at the Plateau Hospitals that's why His Excellency responded and approved  for those replacements to address the inadequacies.
Talking about the ongoing employment exercise at the Plateau State Hospitals Management Board, Engr. Hyat also call on the the unemployed youths to take the chance and apply as he said, here is an announcement in the Nation Newspaper of  Tuesday 30th August 2022, and it is expected that they should respond by submitting their details appropriately as requested on the platforms that was provided. And I am sure the people incharge of the selection will call them for computer based test and thereafter there will be an interaction with them to be sure that the best are selected.
