SENATOR LALONG BIDS FAREWELL TO LATE JUSTICE CHRYSANTHUS SENLONG
Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong has bid farewell to one of his mentors and retired Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Chrysanthus Senlong who passed on at the age of 70.
Statement made available to this medium and was signed by Dr. Makut Simon Macham Special Adviser (Media) to Senator Simon Bako Lalong, Plateau South Senatorial District stated that
Lalong who was among thousands of sympathisers who attended the funeral activities for the late legal luminary at the St. Monica Catholic Church Jos said the death of Justice Senlong was a personal loss to him as he knew him very closely having served under him in the early years of his legal practice.
He said the deceased was his mentor who ignited his interest in the legal profession when he argued cases at the Shendam Magistrate Court in the 80s.
Lalong said their relationship with the late Justice grew and blossomed over the years as he was very instrumental to helping him achieve milestones in the judiciary and other aspects of governance during his tenure as Governor of Plateau State.
According to him, the late Justice was a brilliant lawyer and a man of principle who stood for the truth, justice and fairness at all times.
He recalled that despite challenges he faced in his career, he never allowed anything to put him down, thereby leaving behind legacies of hardwork, resilience and diligence in all the positions he occupied.
Also speaking, the representative of the President, Federal High Court said the court is in mourning having lost a colleague who gave his best during his service to the nation.
Representative of the Chief Judge, Plateau State High Court also echoed similar sentiments where he disclosed that late Justice Senlong mentored so many young lawyers who have become successful in the Bench and Bar.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria Garba Pwul who was also a mentee of Justice Senlong said the late legal luminary was a good man and a person of integrity who worked with people without discrimination.
In his Homily, the officiating clergy at the Saint Monica Catholic Church Jos said death was inevitable and all people need to prepare for its unannounced coming just as it happened to Justice Senlong.
Thereafter, Senator Lalong joined other sympathizers for the final interment at his village, Dokan Kasuwa, Shendam Local Government.
