Plateau State Government Rejuvenate Monthly Sanitation Exercises, promise to tough on defaulters

The Plateau State Government, 

In an effort to get rid of the refuse that is scattered all over the state city centre and to inculcate the habits of cleanliness among the Citizens of the state, the Plateau State Government has embark on massive refuse evacuation within Jos and Bukuru Metropolis, a committee headed by the state Commissioner For Environment. 

Flagging off the Exercise of Evacuating the refuse and monthly sanitation exercise in Jos,the Governor of Plateau state, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong said he is seriously disturb with the way refuse is littering in the metropolis,the Governor who was represented by the Secretary to Government of the state, Professor Danladi Abok Atu said that the Governor has directed that this time around, the Monthly Sanitation Exercise and waste disposal will be an inclusive affairs not only government that will be involved but Traditional Institutions, Community Leaders because the menace of waste in the state is worrisome to the government.

He further sated that his administration has declared state of emergency on waste disposal because protection of citizens include their environment by constant cleaning it, Government will ensure total enforcement of environmental laws in the state because we noticed that people are taking the monthly sanitation with lavity and that will not be condoned .

Lalong reiterates for cleaning and sustained environment,all of us must be involved.

The Governor assured the Committee of his administration’s support to succeed in getting the state rid of waste littering the state.

Employed the security,Ward, Village and District heads to achieve the assignment.

And Tourism cannot thrived under dirty environment.

Speaking to the newsmen after monitoring the exercise in Jos North and South Local governments.

The Governor appreciates all stakeholders and members of the press for the team work.

The Governor decried the culture of environmental negligent among the Citizens which has been there for years and the change cannot be effected in one day and in the wisdom of the Governor,the exercise today is mainly to create awareness and sensitization and that is why we did not use mobile courts and by next month we will be strick in enforcing the law because we want to inculcate culture of cleanliness in our people.

The exercise started from 7 to 10 Am with a visit to some areas within Jos and Bukuru Metropolis and there was partial compliance in Jos North and Zero compliance in Jos South LGA. The SGS was accompanied by the head of security agencies,Commissioners and other top Government functionaries.
