Alleged assault: Counsel to Sargwak debunks withdrawal rumor against justice Umar of CCT

An Abuja base legal practitioner Timzing Venyir Ramnap Esq,  and the Counsel to Mr Clement Sargwak a security officer at Banex Plaza, Wuse 2, FCT Abuja, who was allegedly assaulted by Hon. Justice Danladi Umar Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal on the 30th  day of March 2021 has outrightly debunked withdrawal rumors of the case against justice Danladi Umar at the Senate chamber of the National Assembly.

Mr Ramnap Esq, in a letter made available to News Parrot stated that, on the instruction of Mr. Clement Sargwak, he filed a petition at the Senate against Hon. Umar Danladi, the CCT Chairman for the assault of Mr. Clement Sargwak at Banex Plaza, Wuse 2, FCT Abuja on the 30th day of March 2021.

This morning, he woke up to read in Daily Trust and other news platforms that I have withdrawn the petition filed on behalf of Clement Sargwak against Hon. Umar Danladi before the Senate and the said information came from your distinguished self as the Chairman of the Committee who this petition is before.

The petition which was filed on the 29th April 2021 was referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions for investigation and recommendations by the leadership of the Senate after being moved by Distinguished Senator I.D. Gyang for investigation and recommendations. Hon. Danladi appeared only once and failed to attend the other two hearings and its read as follows:

28th June, 2021

The Distinguished Chairman,
Senate Committee on Ethics,
Privileges and Public Petitions,
National Assembly Complex,
Three Arms Zone,
Abuja FCT.

Dear Sir,

REBUTTAL OF ALLEGED WITHDRAWAL OF PETITION AGAINST HON. DANLADI UMAR (CCT) CHAIRMAN

I, Timzing Venyir Ramnap Esq., on the instruction of Mr. Clement Sargwak, filed a petition at the Senate against Hon. Umar Danladi, the CCT Chairman for the assault of Mr. Clement Sargwak at Banex Plaza, Wuse 2, FCT Abuja on the 30th day of March 2021.

This morning, I woke up to read in Daily Trust and other news platforms that I have withdrawn the petition filed on behalf of Clement Sargwak against Hon.

Hon. Danladi appeared only once and failed to attend the other two hearings.

Since the filing of this petition, I have not been contacted by anybody for any settlement until on the last adjourned date which you practically asked me, my colleagues, and my client who have been appearing with me since the beginning of the hearing of this petition to meet with you in your office in order to proffer solution to Hon. Danladi‘s refusal to appear before the Senate and it was at the meeting in your office that you told us that Hon. Danladi’s men have approached you on how to find a softer ground for their principal (Hon. Danladi Umar) and that you have asked them to go and look for something substantial to give to the boy to start up something and that you were going to get back to us when they get back to you. In response to this your position, remember vividly that we told you that the only way of settling this case before the Senate is to call for a formal meeting with a venue at the Senate Complex which you replied you were going to get back to us whenever they (Justice Umar) gets back to you within the three days you gave them to return to you.

You thereafter instructed that we exchange phone contacts with the Clerk of the Committee for possible contacts on the next position of this case which we both did. We waited for the response and never heard from neither you nor the Clerk of the Committee for over more than two weeks which triggered our yarning to know what was actually going on and in doing this, I put a call to the Clerk of the Committee in order to confirm why we are yet to hear from you as promised and his replied was that he is also yet to hear from you nor Justice Umar. It was upon hearing this that we were in your office last week Tuesday for further clarification and you demanded that the Clerk of the Committee calls the Registrar of the Code of Conduct Tribunal in our presence which he did and open up his mouth to say through the Clerk’s phone that he was in a directed negotiation with my client and that there is nothing I can do. It was based on this position that we both agreed with the Clerk of the Committee that since there is nothing positive and formal from them, the Senate do serve hearing notices to both parties so that hearing can continue. On our departure and after some hours, the Clerk called me on phone that I should come back to his office for another discussion but this time around, I told him I would not go back to his office again for the same failed discussion and further suggested to him that if there is anything regarding this same case, I would advise it is formally discussed before other members of the Committee or have an executive session with all the Senates, that are member of the Committee and all the parties for a better understanding of the purported settlement between Justice Umar Danladi and my client and he replied me that if I cannot come over to his office, I cannot tell the Senate what to do on the matter.

But for the Daily Trust and other news about your position on this case, we will still be waiting for hearing Notice from the Senate to continue with the hearing of our case before the Distinguished Committee.

Sir, in the news, you also said that you have served me with the hearing Notice.

Sir, with utmost due respect to your distinguished office, you have not serve me as the counsel representing the petitioner at the Senate with any hearing Notice as mentioned by you in the Daily Trust news.

In conclusion, I wish to state that I have not withdrawn any petition from the Senate and still expecting hearing Notice from the Senate in order to continue the fight for justice for my client as expected.

Thank you for your kind understanding.

Yours faithfully,

Timzing Venyir Ramnap Esq.
