Benue SUBEB Distributes Motorcycles, Office Equipment To LGEAs

The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Friday flagged off  distribution of 16 motor-cycles ,14  Laptops and 14 Printers to selected Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) at the Board's Headquarters in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

SUBEB Executive Chairman, Comrade Joseph Utse in a keynote address stated that the motorcycles and Office equipment were procured using the 2019/2020 UBEC/SUBEB matching grants. He further stated that out of the 16 Motorcycles in this phase, seven (7) will be distributed to Vandeikya, katsina-Ala, Tarka, Makurdi, Okpokwu, Ohimini and Oju LGEAs while the remaining nine (9) motorcycles will be used by Quality Assurance Officers to facilitate their activities at the Board Headquarters.


He added that the laptops and printers will be distributed to 14 LGEAs namely: Guma, Gwer-west, Gboko, Buruku, Vandikya, Kwande, Konshisha, Logo, Okpokwu, Ohimini, Ogbadibo, Otukpo, Makurdi and Gwer-west.

Comrade Utse was how ever optimistic that this initiative would facilitate effective Quality Assurance process and practice for an improved Basic Education.

In a remark, UBEC State Coordinator, Mrs Augustina Sanchi who appreciated Governor Samuel Ortom for his concern and efforts towards Basic Education by ensuring prompt release of matching grants, emphasized the importance of school monitoring by Quality Assurance Department and tasked the benefitting LGEAs on judicious use of the motor cycles and office equipment. 

Also speaking, SUBEB Permanent Member III, Mr James Ahua commended UBEC for continuous funding of Basic Education in the state. He equally appreciated Governor Ortom for prompt release of matching grants to facilitate Basic Education projects.

Earlier in a welcome address, SUBEB  Director of Quality Assurance, Mallam Bala Yahaya said the distribution of motor-cycles and office equipment was a new road map for regular school monitoring and advancement of Basic Education delivery in Benue state. He recalled that last year, a Hilux Van and 18  Motorcycles were procured and distributed for efficient Quality Assurance activities in the state for the same purpose.
Mallam Yahaya assured other LGEAs not captured in the first phase of distribution that they will benefit in the next. 

Responding on  behalf of the benefitting LGEAs, Education Secretary of Makurdi Local Government, Mr Patrick Aese applauded UBEC/SUBEB for ensuring smooth monitoring of schools by making funds available for the purchase of Motorcycles and office equipment.
